GEORGE STAMATAKIS | How did your Summer drift by this Year?
The new solo exhibition of George Stamatakis, entitled How did your Summer Drift by this Year?, unfolding simultaneously across both floors of the Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center from October 16, constitutes an abrupt ascent of the visual artist into an unprecedented dimension. Giorgos Stamatakis’ intimate preoccupation with the anthropogenic burden upon the planetary ecosystem resurfaces here anew through an heterorthodox perspective: moving beyond any latent inclination toward environmental sensibilization or ecological awakening, the present exhibition does not endeavour to resuscitate in mournful tones a discordant sentiment of guilt within the viewer, but on the contrary, it daringly contends that both catastrophe and death may in fact afford a unique possibility of aesthetic experience [,,,]
